Do you know about the 'Competent Roofers' scheme?

Dear all,

Recently I paid to have my roof redone completely. The result made me happy; however, today I read an item from my local newsletter, which made me worry. I was wondering if you knew about it.

According to the newsletter, since 2006, it has been a requirement that all roofing work of more than 25% of flat/tiled roofs repairs or replacement need to be certified. Without such a certificate, it will be more difficult or impossible to sell your house if work has been done of your roof.

My builder never told me about this or whether they are in the official Competent Roofer scheme.

Apparently, I will have to pay my council around £200 to have the certificate.

Has anyone done this before? Is it true that you need such a certificate?

Thank you.

    its actually 50%.
the roofer should supply you with the certificate, under building regs.

dont worry about selling your house, thats just scare tactics.
if anyone does happen to ask (very unlikely) tell em the work was done prior to 2006.
    Get some gorm.

Drat. I specifically asked my builder whether B Regs was needed for my re-roof and he said no. He came highly recommended too.

Oh well, indemnity insurance if and when I sell, here I come!
