Dad for best man?

My OH still hasn't made up his mind about who to have as his best man, although we are getting married next June! He has ruled out most people, and most of his friends are not that close. The only person he can think of is his dad, but he is worried that might be a bit strange. Can anyone let me know what they think, so I can reassure him and speed him along a bit please?!!

Thanks!

I don't think that's strange at all. It's up to him to decide who his best man is going to be and he's thought of his dad. I think it's really sweet and I think his dad will be honoured :D

  • My brother did this in July, and my Dad was over the moon. Everyone commented on how lovely that was.

At least he knew the best mans speech wasn't going to be too risque!
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

I think it's a good idea & a great way of involving the grooms family more.

  • My husband decided not to have a best man - for the speeches we just had my dad and my husband :)
  • when I was bridesmaid for my best friend, her hubby had his dad for his best man, it was really nice as they were very close and he had always looked up to his dad.

One of my cousins also had his dad as his best man - as my uncle had refused to come to the wedding up until he was asked to be best man  - there's been some big family fall out several years before, all sorted before the wedding thankfully!
  • A close friend of mine has recently had his Dad as his best man ... it was brilliant.

The speech featured a number of heart-felt stories from the groom's entire life (which is special in itself) and loads of people commented on how great it was!

It's also brilliant getting them hammered on the stag do ... but what happens on stag ... :D

My husband had his Dad as best man & had the same concerns about it being a bit of an odd thing to do! But everyone said it was a lovely idea, his Dad was chuffed to bits & I don't think we'd have it any other way looking back now :)
