Hi everyone,
My first MSE post.
So much for loyalty.
I contacted Abbey today to inform them that I had been looking around for Buildings & Contents insurance and that I could get it on average £230 cheaper.
The Abbey chap was simply not interested and told me that Abbey do not price match competitor quotes and advised that the only way to reduce my premium was to beef up my home security (fit an alarm) and not to take out the accidental damage option ??
Told him that I'd been banking with Abbey for 22 years, his response was for me to cancel and get it cheaper elsewhere.
Just switched to Halifax and just made a saving of £241 - nice:j
Will use this saving to get cavity wall insulation
Bye for now.

i had abbey insurance when my kitchen went up on fire and being a large farmhouse kitchen they would only pay for half the units to be changed, the burnt ones and only half the tiles, how was i to get matching tiles when they were handpainted they expected me to have a kitchen with u lots of tiles and 2 lots of kitchen units !! and as u guessed i quickly moved from them.Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out - but I can usually shut her up with cake!0

I dont get the concept that people think that insurers should price match each other?
Do people go into their cornershop and tell them they can get baked beans cheaper at Lidle and expect them to price match? What would be even more accurate is to tell your cornershop that their Heinz baked beans are more expensive than Tesco Value given that insurance policies (particularly home) vary greatly between insurers. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Welcome to MSE.I hope you save loads.Make sure you tell everyone.
Martin has prepared an excellent guide to getting insurance on here ie confused.com and moneysupermarket.com
but whilst they are convienient and list many company quotes, the premium isn't everyones cup of tea.
Consider having alook at the blog from here
http://www.quidco.com/finance/general-insurance/
Once you do the simple registration and login you should get cashback if you use the links. Some members are getting 2x £125 (by splitting buildings and contents),from Barclays, who actually are giving some fantastic quotes.Tread carefully though as not everyone is getting the cashback.I do believe the offer is only until 31/01 though.
Make sure you clear you cookies if you go through cashback, especially if you have visited a particular insurance site.
www.ccleaner.com is a great download for this0
