I wonder how long the experian rep has worked there, me thinks 5 years max. Experian as a name has been about maybe for 30 years, but that does not really mean anything.
I have been in the industry for over 15 years myself, door both credit and fraud risk/investigations .Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

even if you had a high income/ score you can still be refused as not been their target marketDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

But when I, with a discharged bankruptcy order and six defaults on my credit file, can be given a score of "902 - Good"
Can James Jones possibly fill us in on how the hell this above can happen? You post statements on this site on how complicated a process it is to generate these numbers and how you've been doing it for everyone since Methuselah, but surely the same effort should be put in to making them accurate. This is misleading, and potentially having negative effects on peoples credit reports alongside giving people false hope of securing credit. Alot of people have a checkered past with credit, only to log into and of course pay experian to find they're "golden" with a 999 or whatever. Then apply for mortgage/CC's/car finance etc to then realize they've been refused and the number is irrelevant. I realize that you can have a genuinely excellent credit history and get refused due to not being the type of customer, but this is not the point i'm making. Experian do i think mislead people, and have updated their online service i believe, with shiny new colourful graphs so you can see in even more extravagant detail your digits moving up and down and all around.0 -

You can have a great credit history (which is what a 999 Experian Credit Score shows)
I always thought 999 meant they couldn't work out a score for you... I stand corrected!0 -
I've been in the credit score generation business for two years and even better I'm about £4 cheaper than the CRAs and payment is completely optional

You can have a great credit history (which is what a 999 Experian Credit Score shows) but if your income and outgoings won't support further credit it's hardly surprising the lender will say no. We make it clear credit histories are only part of the equation, but they are an important part and many people who get their data from us find our summary score a useful guide to what it means.
We incidentally build scorecards for major high street lenders and have been doing so for over 30 years. I wonder whether chanz4 has the same pedigree? No, thought not!!

Eek! Sense of humour failure?
Chanz, judging by the posts on this thread I think you're more professional and will be signing up to get my score from you.Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -
sorry doubled the price, due to people thinking they can trust me to give correct scoresDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
