Close Brothers

I see that Close Brothers have the top slot for fixed rate savings at 4.25% for 2 years. Whilst I want to get the best rate possible, and be covered by the FSCS £85000 protection. There is something about perhaps the name and their website that just does not give me confidence in them.

Am I alone with this perception or would others have a similar view?

Used their fixed term products many times over the years, from previous experience great customer service.
Design of their website not an issue for me, as its a fixed term account no need to use their website. I apply over the phone, usually receive the application pack within a few days with a free post envelope to return it to them. Ive just put some more into their recent 4.25% 2 Yr fixed term.

They are covered by the FSCS, thats good enough for me, others may disagree.

The 2 year 4.25% account is the second time that I have used them over the last 12 months. Absoultely no complaints (yet!).
  • Another satisfied (though currently ex-) customer here. Must take a look at that 2 year account! I dealt with Close in my former life in the City and they always had a good reputation.
  • Close Bros are a very reputable City institution. I worked in the City in the late 60's and they were highly rated.
  • I still have a 18month account, had some problems when setting it up, but mainly due to high demand, it took a while to do the paper work. But yes I would consider putting more money in, if it wasn't for the fact all of my money is tied up at the moment.

This 4.25% is now closed for business. Look out for the next offer!
  • oh they are very good. We are on our third lot of fixed rate savings with them and will get some more when appropriate. We have been with them about 4 years

I'm very impressed with them. Have had their previous bonds and this time sent the money by bacs rather than cheque. Was a bit wary of doing that but they linked it up the day I sent it.

Have just had the certificate and it was backdated to when the money was sent. I would definitely consider another bond with them when they offer it.
  • Thanks for the notes about Close. I put cash in multiple accounts so that I don't tie all my savings into one period but it is very time consuming. Any suggestions about how people monitor control this other than an excel spreadsheet?
Getting more passionate about my investments the older I get. Should have got more into this when I was younger.
