If they didn't check them closely that was their choice / right but surely not reason enough for back billing rules to apply here?

Wouldn't it be quite reasonable for the supplier to argue that they could have been reasonably expected to have contacted Eon to find out why there was no being billed & that this error would then have come to light?

Given that the meter number quoted seemingly isn't in London at all isn't it more likely that Eon are still supplying this property (unbilled) than that it was actually switched to Southern and that computers at both suppliers are holding inaccurate information?

I don't disagree with you for one moment when you talk about what is 'reasonable'. I certainly agree that he has used the gas and he should pay for the gas; and is at fault for not checking his many bills.(and to be fair to the OP he is not saying he shouldn't pay)

However with the current 'hysteria' surrounding energy companies (who are portrayed as being on a par with the Taliban) in any situation where there is the slightest degree of uncertainty the customer gets the benefit of the doubt. This because the Utility companies just don't want any more censure and bad publicity; and they just recoup any losses by slightly raising prices for other customers.

There was a typing error in my original post (now corrected) but that aside wouldn't the multiple bills they received over two years plus have shown exactly what was being billed?

I will try contacting e-on again as Southern electric are ducking my enquiries. I'm not trying to avoid paying what I've used, but I do think it's reasonable that it doesn't hit me all in one go.

Honestly I wish I knew how to do all this modern life stuff as well as you guys, but since I do make mistakes that's why I come here for advice. Wasn't paying attention, all there is to it. Like someone on this thread said, I would've checked if the bills were sky high, but since they were low. Now I will start paying more attention. Thankyou.

so: I now have a bill!
    1.It's £90
2.it's estimated (I reckon it should be a lot more than that though).

Is it worth me putting in an accurate meter reading now and getting the huge bill then offering to pay it over 6 months?
(can I do this: as I asked before: I've chased and chased them for 6 months+ for this 1st bill), i can afford to pay it now but frankly I'm peed off with EDF so I'd rather not.

EDF changed one meter and not the other, have no interest in doing so, never answer the damn phone or emails and since they have changed one meter (electricity) I am now in a position where I can't get a transfer to another company dual fuel (as gas is still a PPM!).

    Bah.

  • Hello Sam1123,

I’m very sorry to hear of what happened when you’ve tried to resolve this via our call centre. This certainly isn’t the level of service we normally provide.

Whether it is an Erroneous Transfer situation or some other problem that’s occurred, if we’re involved in any way, I’ll handle the issue from here.

I will need further details to progress this, so if you would like to, please contact me via the email address on my profile page with your address details and meter serial number so I can sort it for you.

    Thank you, Holly.
