We are visiting from UK, our daughter who is studying in Ottawa. While we there we would like to visit Toronto, Niagara Falls and fly over to New York.
Can anyone suggest the cheapest way (there will be four of us) to travel to the places e.g by air/train and any budget accommodation. It doesn't matter in which order we visit the cities. Obviously we will be starting out in Ottawa and flying back to UK from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Hello,
Ottawa is fantastic, you'll love it ! I would highly recommend white water rafting on the Ottawa River, its so much fun! I never ever thought in a million years you would get me doing something like that lol.
Niagra Falls is nice, but i must admit i was a little disappointed with how commercial it all is. If your there though, you cant not go and see it
Anyway, i just wanted to tell you about the place i stayed in New York. Its called the 'Chelsea International'. It is budget accomodation, but we found it great! It was about £20 a night when i was there, could be a bit more now..and that was for a room that slept 6 with own bathroom, but you can get twin/doubles etc with ensuites. It was lovely. Its in Chelsea, which apparantly is the 'Gay' area, but we found it fab for being close to everywhere we wanted to go, i felt extremely safe wondering around at night , i would highly recommend it. They have a website if you google them. There is a lovely big courtyard where everyone eats, two big kitchens and laundry rooms so you can do your own thing. In the city that really does never sleep, we found it perfect just for somewhere to rest your head! For the amount of time you'll spend actually in your room, i dont think its worth spending any more on a hotel in New York!
Alot of my friends travelled around via plane, as when your there, you'll see just how cheap domestic flights are in the US. I think the train is pretty reasonable aswell, but when i was there i know many many people were able to make those kinds of flights for as little as £60/£70.
Hope you have a great time!0 -
Oh and you HAVE to go up the Toronto CN tower!!! It looks so scary from the outside, and i almost didn't dare go up the elevator on the outside, but it really is worth it

For flights to Toronto try Zoom Airlines, they are resonable/Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0

not been on Zoom but nothing wrong with Air Transat.
Toronto is a nice place to vist. but Niagara is bit of a dissapointment after the novelty of the falls wears off. but like previous post says you cannot not see it if you have the chanceBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Don't write off the buses, Grayhound, etc. They are cheap and efficient, but just bear in mind that distances are so much greater than we are used to. I think that Toronto to New York was an all day trip, and then some, but it's all a bit of an adventure, so not too boring.0

Funilly enough, I am currently planning a Canada trip. Having looked at the cost of trains between Toronto and Montreal (Ottawa isnt far either), we found that hiring a car woudl be much cheaper. If there is 4 of you, then driving may be a good cheap option provided you can handle the 6/7 hour drives!!If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0
