Married couple benefits

Hi all,Just a really quick question. I know that the Married Couples Allowance is only for those couples where one person is over 75, but do married couples get any reduced tax or NI? I've looked on the HMRC website but it is a bit unclear on this issue. Thanks

there are no extra tax allowances simply for being married.
there used to be a married mans tax allowance but it was abolished many years ago,.

The thing that confused me is this:

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/nic.htm
In particular the part on the table that says, 'Married women's reduced rate between primary threshold and upper earnings limit'?

Ive no idea what the link means unless its to do with married womens NI which was also abolished many years ago. But I suppose some women may still be on it whe were paying that when it was abolished. They staye on it if they wished.

Every person is treated individually for tax purposes/ni purposes.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • It's odd isn't it, it says 2011/12 rates so I thought it would be relevant but oh well! Was kinda hoping there would be some financial perks to this married lark, but looks like I'll just have to stick with spending his money instead :D
