Fuel Additives

Does anyone use them?

I have always popped a bottle of Redex in once a month due to covering 500+ miles a week.

Got told to try BG44K from a friend and at a cost of £20 it was a bit costly!

But the results were second to none, the car pulled harder, ticked over great, just felt like a new engine.

Anyone else used this?

Additives have never really been proven or dis-proven to have any positive effect at all.
I've always had concerns of these additives leaving residue in fuel lines and blocking fuel injectors, but the problem is nobody is ever going to admit f**king up their motor by using additives.

IMO, the only additive to consider is an octane booster if your having to put 95ron into a car that needs 97+. But this is purely to stop the pistons being destroyed!

Except tests have proved, Most of the octane boosters actually make NO difference and even reduced power in
    some tests.

Snake oils and placebo's.... Its £20 so it must be good stuff right?

Your brain thinks that and all is well with the world.

Stick it on a rolling road before and after and see if there really was any difference.

Fuel additives.... one of the best subjects for polorizing opinion.
I think BG244 for diesel engines is the best I`ve used. ;)

I have a car part here covered in carbon. The exact same thing these snake oil manufacturers warn us about.

So far its been in a bath of swarfega engine degreaser, Still coated.

Tried some red-ex diesel injector cleaner, That stuff is evil it stinks, Still coated in carbon.

Where can i get some of this BG244? Read plenty of posts saying its good.

I have used some brake cleaner, Again its nasty stuff. Stinks and actually ate through the
latex? gloves i was using. That did appear to work but only with brushing also.

  • I offer this for the perusal of the naysayers

    hope that links ok.
  • What's the point? For £20 a time you might as well regularly fill up with high octane fuel.

One test done by one college that was probably sponsored by the company doesnt prove anything to me.

There will always be variable results in these tests. A miniscule amount of extra fuel in one engine compared to
    another will alter the tests.

I will try some millers diesel next then..

It's not about power, it's about ignition timing.... Using low octane fuel in a car that's designed for higher octane, will very quickly destroy the pistons.

The people who think octane booster will increase power, they're utter pillocks, who lack the basic and fundamental knowledge of how an internal combustion engine operates.

It is however possible to build an engine that has more power output and requires higher octane fuel to do so. Raising the compression ratio's using modified pistons, will often lead to a requirement for higher octane fuel. But filling your standard production car with the stuff simply will not have any effect.

Yes, incorrect timing which....reduces power output

    You can buy from https://www.powerenhancer.co.uk

I've bought BG44K and BG244K just recently and it's excellent stuff.
