Following advise fro here I removed my Avira antivirus and installed Avast. However, I have no icon on my main screen or in the system tray. Without these I have no control over the program.
When I check on the Security CEntre in the Control Panel it says that Avast antivirus is on and up to date. I have tried to repair in the install/remove section but the program is not listed. I have also tried to reinstall from the web. There is a listing on my c: drive for avast which indicates 432 files and 167mb.
Can anyone provide any answers?

I dont have Avast. But there should be a file within the folder you found on your C:\
It should be something like avast.exe. This file should open the program for you so you can edit the options etc. Try it within the folder to see if its what you want (there maybe more than one .exe) Once you have found what you want. right click it and select 'copy to desktop' This will create a shortcut for you on your desktop so you can open it from there in the future
hopes this helps. if not. An avast user may be needed0 -

Personally I'd be tempted to use revo and remove everything related to either antivirus then reinstall from scratch
Can you see anything at all or is the system tray not visible?
Sometimes you just need to start a new windows explorer taskOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Thanks for the above replies. I could not activate it through the exe file and so I am in the process of trying the second suggestion with revo.
If I do eventually get it sorted I am going to revert to Avira, never had any problems with it, so if it aint broke don't fix it.Change is here to stay0 -
there is a setting in the interface to show icon in system tray, find the avast exe under program files and run it, could also be your taskbar settings.!!

Is it even running?
Look in task manager if avastUI.exe is running in the processes tab.
How did you uninstall Avira, and how did you install avast?-Scott-

interesting...my parent's pc has done the same with avast this weekend....same advice was given to them, uninstall, download fresh copy and reinstall
just wondering if a particular update has conflicted with something else on the pc...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Not sure,
I used to have an issue with avast throwing a fit and breaking itself after an update. You reinstall via control panel works fine
Still prefer avast to everything else. It works fine and it's FREEOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
