Does anybody have some advice…
On my credit card statement each month is a credit for £20 which covers the minimum payment. The problem is, I don't know where this credit originates.
Call me absent-minded, but while I vaguely remember setting up a standing order for this, I don't remember where.
So, I've checked the bank accounts I know I have. I've checked my credit reports as well, and I can't see these payments to my credit card.
My concern is; if they're coming from one of my accounts, that I may go into an overdraft, or who knows what might happen.
So, I would really like to know where these payments originate. I've phoned my credit card company three times. Twice, I've been told that because the payments are online payments, they can't determine any information about their origin. The other time, I was hung up on.
Can anybody suggest what I can or should do please?

Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I did change bank accounts, and I was wondering if perhaps it is coming from the old account.
Two things about that though:- It was an account transfer, and all my standing orders and direct debits were (or should have been) moved to another bank.
- The old account has been closed.
I will try ringing the old bank. I'm now concerned of course that these are payments coming from an account in error, that simply doesn't exist. Worst case, I suppose I'll be asked to pay the money that's been taken in error.
Has anybody got experience of something like this?-Al,

I'd say worst case isn't just that you might need to repay the money, but that these payments are going out of your old account, taking you overdrawn and being marked as such on your credit file. Might also be worth a check of your credit file.
How long ago did you switch banks?
Do you still live at the same address that old bank account had? have you been opening any post that came from them? Or have you had a letter that confirms the account is paid?
If your original payment was set up from your debit card of your old account, then it wouldn't have transferred as part of the account transfer process.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

This is what I don't understand, the old account no longer exists to go overdrawn. That was my initial concern, but I don't see how it's possible - plus, as the balance was cleared before it was closed, if they were still taking £20 a month it would be overdrawn, and I would have expected some correspondance to that effect.
Also, I've checked my credit files and this £20 doesn't show up, neither does an overdrawn status anywhere.
I switched banks and closed the old account last year I think. I do still live at the same address, and I haven't had any post from them now I no longer have an account with them.
Perculiar, no?
I was hoping someone might reply to say "there's a bunch of transactional information on any bank transfer, whether it's done online or not, so your credit card company can check where the transaction comes from - they're just telling porkies, or can't be bothered, or the advisor on the phone doesn't know that information can be checked". Or something to that effect.
Ah well. I'll see what the old bank have to say when I dig out my old statements for reference. I doubt they'll be very helpful.
All thoughts still welcome!-Al,

Does sound odd.
Does your credit card account have a secure message service? wonder if you could try asking them through that what info they have on the transaction origin rather than phone (especially if they are going to hang up on you!) - you might get the same answer but just maybe they might give it more consideration?
Might be worth paying an extra £20 or whatever to cover the minimum from your new account to the credit card - that way if there has been some mistake and the money gets reversed somehow then at least you'll still have payments on file.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I'll have a look to see if I can contact the credit card company securely online, good idea, thank you.-Al,

The credit card company will be able to find out the sort code and account number for any electronic payments (such as FPI and standing orders) to your account.0
