Has anyone flown with Thomson Fly with a baby? we are going to Florida next month and am getting concerned about having her on our laps for such a long flight. Has anyone got any tips? Somebody mentioned about having a travel cot onboard the plane but it seems they dont do this anymore.Any advice would be very welcome! Thankyou.

hi there,
how old is your baby?
We took our then 15 month old on a thomson fly flight last summer, only to Spain though.. we took plenty of new toys to distract her, her dummy and a bottle for take off and she had some medised in case of ear pain before we set off.
Soon after take off she fell asleep. Having her on our lap wasn't too bad, but do call Thomson and ask/request a sky cot if your baby is young enough...
any more specific questions feel free to PM me....0 -
You could try appealing to the checkin staff and ask nicely if they can put you in a row with any spare seats.
Of course if there isn't a single seat on the plane then this isn't going to work but they are human (most of them) so if they have a spare seat then most of them will try to help you.
My husband is quite large so he politely asks and is sometimes successful.
Of course, if you haven't paid for it then you can't expect it and the flight could be 100% full or there could be other disabled, families or obeise passengers on the flight.
It's also possible that if your baby is noisy then other passengers may move of their own accord.0 -
Thankyou. She is 9 months old so is very wiggly at the moment! I contacted Thomson but the said they dont have sky cots on their planes unfortunately.I was kinda counting on being able to use one
Thats the way it goes i guess! 0 -

in that case enquire about the possibility of taking your car seat onboard and using it on a spare seat perhaps? Or even buying baby her own seat on which to put one?
We had to take our carseat last year as we were hiring a car whilst in Spain and I didn't trust the rental company's ones. Anyway, on the way out we put it in the hold and on the way back, Monarch let us fix it to a spare seat.. Have to say though that despite this, my daughter stayed on daddy's knee anyway!
If none of the above is possible, try not to worry too much - chances are your baby will sleep most of the way anyway. take plenty of 'new' toys or books with you for her to look at. The best thing we took was a set of 8 stacking cups - she played with them for hours!
Good Luck with it anyway...0 -
Could you please let ALL other potential travellers on that route know the date and flight number you are on !
I recently flew back from Miami with 2 babies that screamed from an hour before we even boarded the aeroplane until the moment we lost them in Terminal 3.

I always take a pair of earplugs with me and I find it really helpful.
There are many different shapes, so if you don't know which ones suit your ear canal, then you can buy a mixed bag from ebay for about £4 for 20 pairs.
I also find them useful on holiday if you have builders, a road or have a cabin next to the engine of a boat. I wouldn't travel without them and they are tiny to carry.
I have a bag at home because I use them on my motorbike, but at 20p per pair they are one of the most useful and smallest items you can take with you.0 -

I could have done with those at the Holiday Inn at Key West, I had a man in the room under mine putting up plasterboard with a pneumatic nailgun, and his mate was unloading a lorry with a tail roller shutter which he slammed shut after each item was removed. This was at 5:30 in the morning !
When I complained at reception the response was:- "sorry 'bout that, hope the rest of your day is better "!0 -
Seven years on I still recall the longest flight of my life, with my 11 month old, on my lap for a 12 hour journey. Absolute agony.
Going over, I was lucky enough to have a spare seat next to me, and my son happily sat / slept there for most the flight.
However, my return flight (and I was on my own, which is worse, as you can't share the 'holding') I had to have my baby on my lap. To be honest it was impossible, he wouldn't sit still and eventhough I did have the benefit of the cot, he didn't go in it for more than a few minutes at a time. In the end I let him crawl up and down the isle - it gave baby something to do, otherwise he would have done his nut.
Meal times were even the worse - baby on lap trying to put little hands in piping hot food.
Best of luck and if it is a bad one, just wish the flight over asap.0
