Red Line fine due to an obstruction!!

Hi,

Firstly, this is my first post, so forgive me if I've missed something!

I recently receieved a penalty notice from TFL saying I had stopped on a double red line. The pictures supplied are of me and my car, but the reason I was stopped was that another car was trying to park and making a total mess of it (pulling in and out continuosly). So although I was 'stopped' it was only because I couldn't go anywhere!

I have queried this with TFL but they're not interested in 'why' I was stopped and have told me that teh fine will go up to £120 if I don't pay in the next few days.

I suggested they reveiew their video footage so they can see the offending car, but they say that they're cameras only cover the red route and can't see further down the road.

Any suggestions on how best to challenge this would be greatly appreciated?

How far away was the "Parking" car?
  • About 10ft. There were cars waiting to get passed on the other side of the road as well, so I couldn't go round him. Also, as the road was full of parked cars (the parking bays started just in front of where I was waiting), even if the car wasn't blocking the road, I had no choice but to wait for the queue of oncoming traffic to get through before I could go any further down the road.

Right, go to and register on pepipoo.com, this sort of stupid ticket is right up their street. You will be asked to have copies/pics of all paperwork rec'd (both sides) remove personal identifying details. See their stickies on how to post on there. Do it quick, the clock is ticking.
ps. Streetview of road would also be of help, I know its 2yr out of date but gives a good guide on the road.
pps. Video should be available, cameras are not static.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Thanks. Just registered and going through the process. Wish me luck!
  • Did you have any luck????????????????

  • Another one bites the dust, shame really as it should have been easy to win.

  • Hi All,

Thank u all for your advice. 3 weeks after my 2nd email to TFL, I finally received a letter from them yesterday to say thay they have "carefully reviewed my appeal and have agreed to cancel the penalty notice". They then go on to say that they do not accept that they were in the wrong, but have done this as a gesture of goodwill. Glad it's been resolved, even if TFL don't admit they got it wrong! I would urge anybody else with similar penalty notices to definitely query them.
Thanks again for all your help.
  • That kind of BS response makes me as annoyed as the gratuitous incorrect ticket in the first place. It's F-all to do with good will, and you should reject their good will (while obviously accepting the cancellation of the ticket). They need to understand and admit their errors, and have a big rocket put up their backside when necessary.
