Horrified to hear employees of this firm have twisted my parents' arm into signing off work that hasn't been done by saying they won't get paid by British Gas unless they signed the 'Customer Checklist' they have drawn up. As menial as the work they gave was, it's deeply unprofessional and gives a hint, they're untrustworthy.
I was looking for a mention of the illegality of this practice online, but can't find it. Anyone have a shortcut?
We have a leak in a bedroom. We have been told they'll need to stop the water and make a hole in the wall (?) but we will need to sign a disclaimer if they find nothing. Totally lost. BG Homecare customer.

Do NOT sign the disclaimer.
It is their job to find the leak and repair it, AND make good all the damage they do in the process. It is RIDICULOUS to hold you responsible for the cost if they break the wall open in the wrong place.
Send a WRITTEN complaint and insist on a WRITTEN response; do NOT under any circumstances call them to try and settle this.0 -
Dynorod: they could amend the form accordingly to the work that they believe has been done (or not done).
BG HomeCare: if the source of a leak is not visible and requires some 'experimental' dismantling to access the pipework and find it, then the making good is not I think covered under your policy?
Why don't you get a proper plumber in to fix it rather than BG bodge-up boys though? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you both
I agree it is their responsibility if their hunch is wrong.
Peace of mind for the parents as my mum in particular is compulsively anxious to a destructive degree, Mac. BUT, now that we've paid for BG, they're not amenable to getting a plumber around. 'Wouldn't it invalidate our policy?' they say. 'Too much trouble!' etc.
The making up is not covered in their T&C, but their T&C also states:
Unless we are responsible for it, we will not include loss or damage to
your property (including any cleaning needed) or any other type of
loss. If access has to be made to your property to complete a repair,
we will fill any holes and leave the surface level but will not replace the
original surface or construction. Any redecoration or repair of
damage that may be needed following our work is your responsibility,
unless we have been negligent.
So long as they fill the hole after. I wonder what the disclaimer says...it's the whole reason I stayed home this morning.0 -
It is simple: disclaimers are an addition to the contract, and obviously in their interest rather than yours.0

disclaimers are there cos generally the engr will say i need to do this.. ok.... cust say ok.... engr does it then the cust moans and ants financial compensation, even though their express permission was given at the start.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0

Any additions are clearly a cop out, and designed to avoid giving the customers what they have paid for in advance.0 -
Suggest they get a real plumber. People have so many bad experiences form these call out services. I've stopped using them after my own bad experiences. Had have a toilet replaced after "repairs" from one of these outfits. I shudder to think of anyone letting them make holes in the wall.....0
