  • I got the pink breast cancer one bnib from charity shop couple years back and i love it. I use it for everything, has all birthdays, addresses, appointments for me & kids, and i usr it to keep track of my budget, all my monthly incomings and outgoings. It looks a mess on the pages but i love it, it works for me.
  • My OH still uses his for work. I just buy him the new year's diary for Xmas and the notes pages when he needs them.
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!
  • I love my Filofax. I just find it easier to use than an electronic calendar and I am such a stationery nerd.

I have a filofax from the 80s, its in good condition but I have no idea where it is, I am going back to a paper diary next year, I'll use my filofax if I can find it otherwise I think I'll get one from Paperchase, I would love a breast cancer awareness one though:)
Thank you for this site Martin

I use one too, an A5 size purple leather one that was a gift a few years ago. I sometimes find that writing in it in at meetings is a little more polite than constantly tapping away at the iphone.

I don't think they are outdated. I see loads of business people still using them although they will often have an iphone or blackberry in their hands as well as the filofax.

Not that it really matters but I read somewhere that they are coming back into fashion  I use mine sometimes - depends what mood I'm in but I think I may go for it next year as part of my professional image overhaul!!!

Filofax and Time/Systems are far too expensive. I use Google Calendar and GooSync to synchronise it with my mobile phone whenever I have free Internet access. That way I don't have to use an expensive data rate when travelling abroad.

I'm going back to paper, over the last year I've played around a lot with my iPhone/iPad but these don't have the flexability or reliability of paper. Most of the people I see using their iPads are forcing its use upon themselves - as they just paid several 100 quid for the thing - I bought mine for general browsing/internet/games while travelling so I am less insistant on it's use for work. It is also funny when people experience an oops and frantically scramble if the app crashes or they click the wrong button. If my work network wasn't secure and allowed syncing then I would perhaps stick with the iPhone/iPad combo but I like the freestyle and ease of pen and paper. I have tried and got used to using all the top apps but nothing comes close to the traditional form - the ease of doing a quick sketch or mind map in the borders, squeezing tiny writing in between previous lines - all doable using an app but not nearly the flexability or reliability I require. For me, although I am a gadget geek, it's back to pen and paper.
  • I've been happily using a Filofax for years, i've never had any problems with finding replacement pages and inserts for it so they can't be that outdated. There's probably less novelty/"fashionable" extras available for filofaxes these days but they were never the kind of things that were particularly needful anyway (i remember when Filofaxes first came out and everybody had one and you could even find cosmetic palettes with 6-holes down the side for putting into them!). I sometimes use the calendar on my phone for appointments as well, but personally i find that writing things down "fixes" things in my mind better than typing them into my phone/computer does (plus past experiences have left me slightly wary of electronic data storage) so i'll continue to use my filofax as a matter of personal preference.

As long as it continues to meet my needs and i'm able to easily find replacement pages for it, i really couldn't give a fig whether or not other people consider it to be outmoded/unfashionable.
  • Thanks for your replies, does anyone find filofaxes are bulkier than general diaries or phones? I stopped using mine because of its bulkiness though I am considering going back to it next year, its a mini size.
