Sudden Increase in Spyware on My Laptop

Hi, I use Panda Internet Security and have not noticed anything concerning when doing a scan since installing it a few months ago. However, since last week I seem to have been bombarded by spyware all of a sudden. I scanned this morning and had 19 found on my laptop and just did another scan and had another 10!
I enter a lot of competitons from this site and only use the internet for general surfing, ebay, bbc etc. Please can anyone advise what I can do to prevent this? I'm very worried about online banking now (although I always log in using the on screen keyboard, but I realise this is still vunerable). I'm by no means a computer wiz so any advice greatfully received.
