Where can I find a list of permanent hair dyes that are free from PPD?

If you are really concerned by the recent PPD drama then go to an "organic" hairdresser and ask them what they offer. Or look in health shops where you will find a limited range of PPD free dyes, but don't even think about going lighter- it ain't happening!

Google was my first stop but I couldn't find one list of all free or not free easily.

No organic hairdressers here that I know of and I don't go lighter I just match my normal colour which is fairly dark.

Sanotint do one though there isn't a huge range of shades, a friend of mine uses these and is very happy with them.

You still have to do patch test though!

Superdrug's own brand are good (and cheap!) - and the conditioner included is so generous, I've not needed to use any other in the 4-5 weeks between tints. The ingredients are on the base of the box, so you can check before buying. I've been using Natural Blonde for some time now, and it's as good as the L'oreal I used before. It's not smell-free while you're using it though!

I've been reseaerching this - so far Sanotint and Surya sound good from the reviews.

I've tried Reflex by Naturetint - but it doesn't cover the grey at all. I will give it one more try but I don't think it will work, not even temporarily. That doesn't mean it won't work for others though.

Poster above me, do you mean Superdrug's non permanent brand? - that's the only one that i couldn't see PPD listed.....but there were so many other chemicals that I didn't buy it. I wasn't sure if it had something else or PPD by another name, lol!

I have to say i've used Herbatint and Naturetint permanents and although they contain PPD, they do in much lower levels and I find my head never itches and my eyes don't water with them. However after reading stuff aobut PPD, the more you read about it, the more I think it should be banned and an alternative found.

It is a known danger to skin. Dermatologist's hate it.....and if women are not convinced, I've even seen some references to it being linked to breast cancer (as well as other cancers, particularly bladder cancer). We stil don't know why breast cancers are on the rise, just a thought, uncomfortable I know, annoying I know cos there appears to be no alternative.....but there never will be if we mindlessly use what is provided despite it potentially being dangerous.

I've used Superdrug, Boots and Wilkinson's own brand. All very good but the most impressive was Wilkinson's foam one. It was a bit messy but long last so I didn't need to redo my roots 3 weeks later.

I have very dark hair and only a white band in the front which is very resistant to dying! I try to just tint this front bit so want good colour match but sometimes put it all over.

I've asked in Boots and Superdrug if any PPD free and the SA haven't known what I'm talking about!

Doesn't surprise me - no one really knows about PPD and no one will unless the number of severe allergic reactions keep rising....only then will people start asking questions.


There is apparently no product on the market without PPD, apart from the odd few mentioned here and these are unlikely to be permanent.

I've just ordered Sanotint, like you i have a resistant grey patch on otherwise dark hair. It just doesn't go! LOL!

I've used Logona hair powders from https://www.suvarna.co.uk/logona-hair-colour.html but they are messy and hard to apply. I did have to do two applications the first time to cover the grey and I think that I will always struggle with covering those most resistant greys at the temple (one side only though!). However, I received lots of compliments as I was 50% grey and as the cover was variable it looked like I had had lowlights/highlights.

But Logona would have worked out expensive on a long term basis so now I am ordering henna and other herbs from Henna Boy UK and I mix these with a cheap conditioner to apply which I have to do every two weeks because of the roots and colour fading but this is a lot easier to apply. The colour is less brown than I achieved with the Logona as the greys are more coppery but it still works and no PPDs
