Hiya, well mid December I will cease to be a company car user, after a 10 year stint of having everything done for me.
So, I need to find myself a car, and thought it best to start with a cheap and cheerful motor, where I can save up for something decent, or at least a decent deposit. Is this wise?
I had a look at a few used cars and new cars today, but cost wise is quite high, so I'd prefer to save up money prior to going down the decent new car / decent used car route.
So I've got the option of getting a lease deal / long term car hire / cheap and reliable used car.
My problem is that I've not got a clue about cars, so have no idea if some of the cheap and cheerful cars that I've looked at on Autotrader & eBay are good enough at a low price, but with 100k+ miles on the clock. Although it does appeal for me to get a motor for £1.5k ish, and hope that nothing goes wrong with it prior to me saving up enough to get a decent car.
Any advice that anyone can offer me please?
Car Requirements:
circa 20 miles per day (into city centre and back for work)
3/4/5 door
Ford Focus size
petrol/diesel
auto/manual

Can you not purchase the used company car? At least you know it's history and some of the running costs.0

I spend around £2k on a car. Less than 5 years old and in good condition. High miles
 doesnt worry me.
I bought my last car Y reg mondeo 2L petrol, £2300 i think, 130,000 miles, Ran sweetly. No issues.
Sold it just under 5 years later for £800 with over 150,000 miles. 2 years on and its just been taxed
for another 12 months so,, I presume still going strong.
Now have a 2004 diesel estate and again just over £2000, Had it for 2 years on its going strong and past 150,000 miles.
Will be keeping this one for afew more years yet.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
