which FREE anti spyware & virus software is currently best?

hi i have both ad-aware and avast free versions installed, am just wondering which is the best one to use for a full system scan or whether there are any new players around which are better? thanks

I suppose those who pay, support those who don't? Perhaps if too few people paid, they couldn't carry on supplying a free version. I think there may be a case for supporting software by payment or donation if it has been used freely for a good length of time.
