It's unlikely to work ever again.
Anyway, DON'T try to switch it on. That's certain to kill it completely. Best bet is to remove the stainless case (not easy!) and disconnect the battery. Leave it in a warm dry place for at least a week before reassembling. See

Sorry to be pessamistic but I did the same with a mobile phone. It was switched on at the time and therefore 'live' It never worked again. The only saving grace for the ipod was that if it wasn't switched on at the time it may work by thoroughly drying it out in an airing cupboard."...IT'S FRUITY!"0
