Ex- Partner entitlement to company pension

I thought that "pensions" and "death in service benefits" were entirely different things. For the latter, I know I had to nominate a person to receive the benefit. For the former, I am not sure how my own pension stands but I know that I would receive a small annual amount from my husband's pension if he predeceased me.

It's a bit different to that - a survivor's pension is paid if someone dies while in service/before the age of 75/depends on the provider. A death grant is a lump sum that a nominated person gets. A pension sharing order/earmarking order is issued by courts in case of divorce.

Just looking at this thread has made me think???

My partner of 13 years(were not married)has a ex wife, they split up 15 years ago.Now when they split up they both suggested that his ex wife keep the house and he would keep his future pension and this is what they did.

They havent got paperwork regarding this, they just decide it this way and so far nothing has changed.

Now hes due to retire in 3 years time, she couldnt get any of his pension could she??they are divorced but as I have mentioned they dont have any paperwork regarding the house and pension,it was just a verbal aggreement between the two of them.

If there's no paperwork to back up this agreement, perhaps he still owns half their house?
