Thanks for the advice guys.
So where is generally the best place to look for a laptop? Is there one retailer that tends to be the most competitive?

You can buy it on a new pc already. If you want to buy separate retail packs then they're officially released tomorrow."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

The spec you've been quoted is a fairly good one which will set you back about £500, I wouldn't splash out any more than that for it. There's some good sellers on ebay, but please check out the feedback of sellers before even considering it, there's plenty of scammers on there as well. I'd recommend a dell inspiron 64000

I'm wondering if it's just my box that's not good then, if everyone else thinks that 512 is fine.
It's just little things bother me, like it can take 2 or 3 seconds for explorer to load. Am I being too fussy?
I wonder if it's all the junk acer installed on it slowing it down.
Maybe I'll try a clean XP install and see if that's any better.
I ran my lappy on 512 for a long time. no problems. I have laptops running on 256 here which are useable for office and email etc. Its worth making sure you have all the fancy windows stuff disbaled. go to properties on my computer and then to advanced and then performance setttings. select 'best perfromance' makes like so much more bearable!
As for where to get a laptop. then i sugest pc world clearance. if you check there regularly you'll get a good open box deal. otherwise dell are usually the best port of call. if money is no issue then get a Toshiba.kicking squealing gucci little piggy.0 -
I'd suggest checking tesco - they're normally pretty good on price and you get clubcard points too! (a £500 lappy would give you £20 back in deals)0
