Hi we need a new pc desperately. The one we have now is 9 years old and creaking and groaning alot even with new bits added over the years!

We have a budget of absolute maximum £800. I would prefer £700! We have a monitor so it could come with or without monitor (but no bigger than 22" as wouldnt fit in the gap)

I have been looking at the all in one pc's but hubby not keen as if they break they are not cheap to fix and you cant replace parts that easily. I was looking at stretching budget for the imac but it seems pointless to spend £1k when we wont really use the imac for the graphic design capabilities etc...

He has seen the dell xps8300 does this look like a good one to go for?

we use it for surfing, emailing, a LOT of downloading, producing stuff, watching dvds and online content and gaming (but not hard core games like COD).

Can anyone help with the best place to look , i want to avoid the crap that is pcworld and high street rubbish unless they have a fabbo deal on lol.

Thanks in advance

Depends what you use it for, seems a high spec for just general domestic use, I have the Insprion Zino HD, the spec is still well above general needs , small footprint and quiet too

Thanks DUTR, i think hubby wants it to be beefier than we actually need so if he does get some into the new COd on PC (we have it on xbox) then he has that option. He also does a lot of downloading and i mean a lot! there is always something or other being downloaded by him (all legal i hasten to add!!) he will then use power producer or other software to do stuff etc...

what do you mean by gaming?
for the rest of your needs that machine is far too high a spec. you only require a pretty basic machine at half that price.
as for gaming, that Dell PC graphics card is a bit naff.
    Get some gorm.

I should also add that daughter is starting gcse photography so will be doing a lot of photoshopping and editing photos etc... dont know if that makes any difference. i think this is one reason why i thought the imac might be good for us.

Taking the COD hint, here are a couple of respectable UK PC makers who have won awards with the likes of PC Pro.

    and CCL

Beware that, like many retailers, the price you see may not include VAT, a monitor, or an Operating System.

massive overkill for what you need http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=1006 upgrade the hard drive to 1-2 tb and get a external hard drive as well for back ups

    or something like this
    http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Cyberpower_Z68_configurator/
    http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/weekly_sales_III/

each system can be modififed to meet your needs
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
