4 x 4 breakdown cover - Autoaid no cover ?

UPDATE 30/01/07
I have recieved this email from Autoaid:
"Thank you for your recent interest in AutoAid.
Please be advised you would be covered in the Isuzu Trooper in the
event of
a breakdown, on the condition that it is not a pick-up truck or used
commercially.
We hope this clarifies matters.
Yours sincerely,
AutoAid Administration Department "
It may be worth any 4 x 4 owners sending a quick email to confirm this, but if they cover a Trooper, they should cover most 4 x 4.
I have been using autoaid for breakdown cover for several years now and although I have never claimed, I think it is good value, however on checking the terms they do not cover 4 x 4 vehicles or engines over 3.0l, this is a problem as we have recently bought a Isuzu Trooper due to our village flooding problems.
Can anyone advise on cover for our 4 x 4 and offer an explanation of why autoaid does not cover them ?
Thanks.

Possibilities:
Reliability
Autoaid my rely more on towing rather than transporters (to minimise costs) which can be difficult with large and/or 4WD vehicles
AA, RAC, Britania Rescue are happy with 4WDs0 -
oh dear, I didn't realise this.
The previous poster is right.
You can't tow 4WD it has to be lifted.0 -
I jsut called them and they said my Subaru Legacy would be covered (I've had to have it lifted rather than towed in the past).
So I don't know what their criteria are.0 -
Hmmm, I also called to check this out, I spoke to a lady in "Admin" and she told me my Isuzu Trooper would be covered, she asked if it was a pick-up or fitted as a van/cargo carrier, I told her no and she said I would be covered, I am going to e-mail Autoaid however and ask for this in writing, as I don't fancy a big towing bill down the line, only to be informed I am not covered, if it's not in writing it's worthless.
I'll let you know how I get on. :rolleyes:0 -
BUMP: See update in first post.0

Be careful if you have a trailer though - especially a Sankey (ex-army). Most of the tow-trucks can get a 4x4 on the back but have trouble with a trailer if it has a fixed pintle (ie needs a rotating hitch on the tow vehicle).
One AA comedian actually loaded my Rangie on his truck and then put the heavily-loaded trailer up on the lift used to put normal cars' front wheels in! I told him he was crazy and he got quite stroppy about it until another AA patrol came along and asked him if he seriously thought he could do that whereupon he calmed down. They then hauled the trailer off elsewhere and told me I'd have to recover it from their depot about 200 miles away
Then they forgot about it so I rang and played the innocent and asked when they were going to recover it for me - they were very apologetic about it and arranged it immediately.:j However the driver who brought it wanted to know how I'd wangled it as they don't normally touch any military-type stuff.0
