Were you definitely "quoted" or did it say "estimate"? Even if the latter, I think they should have come back to you to advise of increased cost rather than just bill you later as a fait accompli. Definitely challenge it.0

I use Swarfega to remove paint. It works well. White spirit apparently soaks into your skin!0

Good news, I emailed them back regarding the quote and they backed down straightaway, sending me a revised invoice within half an hour!
