I have tried to google this to no avail so need to ask for your help please
I have just purchased an HDMI cable to play my laptop through my tv. The visual works fine, but the audio has to configured each time I connect and disconnect the cable. I have to set either the tv or the laptop as default audio each time.
Is there any way of getting around this so I can just plug and play? My housemate isn't very technical minded so if she wanted to do the same, she would have no chance! I would just prefer not to be clicking around and changing settings each time I want to watch something on the tv.
Thanks in advance

If you use something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2m-3-5mm-Jack-2-x-RCA-Twin-Phono-Cable-Lead-GOLD-/280683444930?pt=UK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item415a097ac2
The 3.5mm jack from the speaker / headphone socket on the laptop, and the RCA's into the RCA input (red, white and yellow plugs. Red and white are audio). so when you plug the HDMI cable into the TV you won't need to set the sound as well; the sound will continue to play through the laptop but it'll go out via the headphone socket into the TV and out through the speakers.0 -
It could be the way the drivers for the sound are set up.
What is the make/model of the laptop?. This will give us more of a clue.Never Knowingly Understood.

Changing audio can be a pain.
I've tried on Windows and Linux desktop a number of times.
The only way I ever got it to work is when using headphones!!! lol!!
Only thing I can suggest is check to see if you can have BOTH the laptop speakers and HDMI working at the same time.
Then you just need to remember to mute the laptop speakers when watching TV.
If you can access the BIOS and check under "Audio" or "Southbridge" tab (if their is any!!) that's usually where the sound card is located in the menus.
it should be set to either "AC97" / "MC97" or "HDAudio" / "HD Digital" check to see what options their are.
if it has a setting like "AC97 + HDAudio" then use that! That should give the Laptop access to both types of audio and may let you output both at the same time.Laters

Right-click on the speaker icon in the System Tray (next to the clock) and chose 'Playback Devices'. A number of sound output items might be listed there, depending on what's in the computer. Try selecting something other than the speakers. If you see a graphics related HDMI output or a sound related HDMI output, try those. If this works, you can just go into those options to switch back to 'Speakers' when you want to.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0

Thanks guys, I will have a look next time I'm on the laptop... I think I might have to be resigned to just switching manually each timeBecame Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

I had this problem before when I was using Windows Vista. Upgrading to Windows 7 resolved such problems. Just my two penn'orth but Vista always caused me such problems and they went once on W7.
