Cheaper software for charities

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find anything. If you are a registered charity (or should I say represent a charity) then you can get cheap software from https://www.citnexus.co.uk :money:

So for example you can purchase a MS Office Professional Plus 2007 License for £52 (plus VAT), and then a disk set for £20 (plus VAT). Or Office Standard 2007 License for £42 (+VAT) plus disks. This sounded quite a good deal as Office Pro 2007 OEM is just under £200 on ebuyer.

Obviously it is a lot cheaper to go with OpenOffice etc. but some people are just diehard MS users!

Hope this is of help to someone.

Charities can save even more. Check out http://www.ctxchange.org/

    Here's the blurb:

"The CTX Programme, brought to you by Charity Technology Trust (CTT) in partnership with the not-for-profit technology capacity building organisation TechSoup, was launched on 1st July 2006.

This programme currently distributes Microsoft and Cisco product donations to the UK charity sector via the on-line CTX Shop. The products include operating system software, productivity software such as Microsoft Office, publishing software, server software and hardware products.

Charities are required to pay a small Administrative Fee to cover the costs of the programme. Whilst the administrative fees vary, charities will still make savings of between 92-96% on typical retail prices."

Thanks again to Money Saving Expert fans for making us one of their charities of the year.
  • Also consider using linux which is free.
  • I suspect the training costs of converting "windows/office" staff into "Linux/OpenOffice" would be more than the cost of software.
  • There is a linux system called 'puppylinux' which looks just like windows and comes with all 'normal' software (email, word processing, graphics, music, video... etc etc). I don't know the slightest thing about linux but a friend of mine has recently got a web cafe set up on the system for next to nothing, and everyday members of the public use it quite happily.
