I wasn't asked to hand over my bank cards, nor was I asked to return my cheque book, but like others my account has slipped through the net cause I know Santander aren't the most BR friendly.Feb 2024:

This is this most up to date info from the website in PDF form and this says it all!!
But I think TQ and wildheart83 know they have been lucky xx-
When the bankruptcy order is made, you should:
immediately stop using your cheque books and bank cards; and
hand them over to the official receiver as soon as possible.

Which is exactly the information I was referring to on the directgove website page, the first paragraph:
"When the court makes you bankrupt, you should stop using your cheque books and bank or credit cards. These must be handed over to the Official Receiver (the court’s bankruptcy officer)."
Dojo - I appreciate some of the info on that page may need updating, but I only linked to it for information relevant to this thread. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Freddy - because Barclays & the Co-op now offer BR friendly accounts, what usually happens these days is that the OR acknowledges the day to day account and allows the BR to keep cards for that, but all other cards are handed over to the Receiver.
So, yes, you can have a debit card during your BR year.
It's just that the advice (directgov and IS as per If's quote) haven't been updated to reflect that yet. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

INAN, why do you feel the need to have a go at me? All I said was that the Directgov page needed updating or correcting, I wasn`t having a go at you in anyway. This is the part I was referring to.
Your bank or building society will be told that you are bankrupt and will freeze all your accounts, including any joint accounts. While your accounts are frozen, you can’t receive or make payments. This will affect any standing orders or direct debits you have, so you should make alternative arrangements to pay any bills.
There is no mention of any BR friendly banks at all.:pB&SC No. 298

Sorry INAN, It wasn't a criticism just that the IS site had updated info xx
If...x

If - I know you weren't critising, just thought it worth quoting the directgov paragraph too as they pretty much say the same.
Dojo - I knew you were referring to the bit about freezing accounts as the part that needs updating. I wasn't having a go, just pointing out that the part relevant to this thread is correct. If the OP had asked about whether accounts are frozen then I wouldn't have used that link. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Sorry INAN, my apologies:o I only pointed out that it was wrong, as I was wary of any newbies reading the part about the bank accounts definitely being frozen, and not being able to pay SO`s and DD`s. In hindsight I should have quoted that part in the first place and avoided any confusion.:pB&SC No. 298

I went Br in Jan as well, and although i opened a co-op acc which i use, my Nationwide bank acc was never closed so i still have that.Never Give Up hope!0

I went BR last December (two weeks left):j. I have kept my Natwest account, but they wasn't a creditor of mine so maybe thats why, as reading on here, I know they are not the most BR friendly bank either.0
