Wanting to sell old football programmes?

  • I collect FA Cup Final programmes, simply for the reason that they hold their value and can usually be sold on at a profit. Ordinary league games? Sell them to a dealer as a batch. You might get 20 quid for them. Good luck :-)
  • Whilst I do not disagree with the posters who have said that the value of the programmes the OP is looking to sell is likely to be low I do disagree with those saying there is not any value in any programmes.

My OH is a very "keen" programme collector (well that is the polite version of what I call him :rotfl:) and through that my eyes have been opened up to the value of programmes. There is no hard or fast rules that can be applied but roughly the older or rarer you get the more they are worth. Pre war are relatively rare and can easily go for a three figure sum (four now and then) and quite alot of post war ones are in that price range as well.

As with everything it is supply and demand that sets the value, the value of a programme from a game from the 90's which had a low quantity of programmes printed with 2 popular teams might be much higher than one from the 70's where there are alot of programmes floating around.

What I would suggest is anyone who is looking to sell programmes is initially look on ebay for an indication of what equivalent (same club and season) ones are going for. There are programme dealers country wide who might be worth considering for a larger older set of programmes, however I would suggest that you try to have an idea of the value before you go near them else they will no doubt offer you the minimum they can get away with.

200 programmes from the late 80's/early 90's won't be worth much unfortunately, especially if they are lower league programmes with a limited market.
  • HI,
Thanks to all that have replied. I'm not really looking for lots of cash, just extra space!! (our baby daughter takes up a lot of room!). I'll have a look through and see if there are any ones that stand out, and approach a dealer with the rest.

I know it won't be much, but it helps in the end!! :)

10,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
When I cleared our loft I took stuff that I was unsure of to the auction house for valuations.

We did have loads of footie programmes, some more valuable than others. Don't just dump them, do get them valued first. A valuation is free.

We also had some motor racing magazines going back to the 50's and 60's. These were quite valuable and fetched a good price - £££'s

If you've any Women's Mags lurking around, get those checked out too. Some "Vogues" are worth a tidy sum.

Most vintage magazines, football programmes, cinema and theatre posters and programmes do have some value. Always check first before clearing out.

You're not allowed to advertise things for sale on these boards, smithihill.
You could try eBay, or see if you can find a dealer who would want them.

Ok here's two good places for selling football programmes I used.

First is the Facebook football programmes group. Great place to find values or get information. Search "footballprogrammes" on Facebook

Now second is a place that you might want to use if you have something special to sell and you want a trusted dealer.

    Search "matchdaymemories" in Google

Sorry but could find my old login and as a newbie can't post links yet. Hope that helps - but main reason I post it is I have been ripped off to many times on ebay. That wouldn't be so bad if ebay payed UK tax and UK VAT or even if they were British.

True, however I have to say that surprisingly some of my bestsellers are local non league programmes (and I'm talking about really low, northern/southern premier level and below) and I've sold more non league than league I'd say, even though I have probably about an equal amount of both. Why, I can't say for sure, but there definitely seems to be a few collectors out there particularly interested in obscure, non league programmes and certainly some of the programmes I've sold can't have had more than 50 printed, so they're not easy to get hold of.

Its slow business, and with boxes of a few 100 programmes at least, it'll be years before I get rid of them all, but it seems just about worth it, selling several a week at 99p each, similarly to what I'm earning through survey sites, its a nice bit of cash on the side. I personally doubt it makes too much difference what the price you put them up for is, 10p, 50p, 99p, I think if someone's interested in the item, they won't mind too much, though I could be wrong of course.
