If they just stick a sticker on top they are breaking the law

Every supermarket is 'breaking the law' if such is the case. When items are whoopsied new barcoded stickers are placed on top of existing barcodes. They are not equipped with marker pens to score out a sticker first.
Not entirely sure what law they are breaking by doing so.

Even if this was an illegal act taking place every evening by every store, I'm sure others would agree, it cannot be used by a minority to justify retail theft.

  • It is not actually illegal (been in retail 20 years at all levels0 and I am not going in to the ins and out of it as it has been said many times before.... You will find that the retailer would be in more trouble pricing up and charging you for an item higher than it is already marked at than you would be for peeling off a label.

I don't advocate it either, but just because some on a message board says it is illegal it doesn't make it fact.

I'm sorry but deliberatley tampering with a barcode to get something cheaper than the price it should scan at is fraud and obtaining goods by deception. No ifs, no buts.
  • Come on, who else sent me the coupons for the pans. Hands up or I'm going to start picking people at random.

Hi everyone, this is my first post. Been lurking here for about a week. Have been meaning to post but by the time i've caught up its always so late! Anyway its only a small glitch but the tesco's own bleach is £0.79 or 2 for £1.20 so it takes off 38p for every 2 brought, but it actually takes off 38p twice, one discount says bleach and the other says washing up. I went back and tried it again to double check and it definitely works, i also used a £1 off household coupon from the price drop mag. I got 10 bottles plus a pack of andrex washlets, used a 50p off coupon and a £1 off so spent £3.60 on 10 bottles of bleach and a pack of wipes. not bad i thought. Hope this helps someone :)

Welcome! Well done on checking your receipts and sharing your find with us all :T

.... I know myself, that on one occasion, the underneath barcode was visable.. just slightly, as the sticker hadnt covered it properly - so i will admit, i put my finger over the stickered barcode and scanned the little bit that was sticking out underneath..... - i would not make a habbit of it - but it could have happened if i had scanned it anyway. :)

I did the same for a Playdoh set weeks ago. There was no tampering done and both barcodes were visible so I accidently covered the one I thought might charge me more, set it in the SS area and it didn't cause an issue so obvioulsy the original barcode was calibrated for the correct weight & item.

i know we're not allowed to swaps and things on here..but please make an exception for me....I would like to swap 2 very naughty little children...for 2 nicely behaved children...any offers? :)

I have a 2yo who threw up his dinner and an 8 month old who has mastered commando crawling and is eyeing up the stairs

Well funnily enough, no 1kg bags of McCains today. Used a whack of coupons but I did notice the SA placing one on top of the till. She said I couldn't use the Dettol one on the wipes until I showed her the pic. I think she only saw the sprays which I didn't have.

Am now fully stocked for Andrex wipes, Dettol wipes (must not confuse the two) and between the 31p Holt de-icer and a 5lt container of antifreeze screen wash I'm ready for this cold weather everyone is talking about. It was a balmy 6C when I was driving home so not sure if I'm the only one on here who doesn't live in the north of Scotland!

BTW if anyone is going to Ts tonight would they do me a huuuuuuge favour? I bought 2 packs of Gu Brownies at £3.29 ea but I could have sworn there was a 2 for £5 SEL. If anyone spots it woul dthey let me know as that would make one of them almost free with DTD if I can prove it tomorrow.
