Cool, we don't laugh enough these days. Just logged in to read the last few pages as I'm in a hotel full catch up tomorrow morning.

Didn't sleep well, pulled on some clothes to go down to breakfast, realised I had my Tshirt on back to front I may have got away with it but it has a huge pattern on the front which looked weird on my back
  • would you all just top talking so much - 100 pgs in 2 days...had a busy few days, lincoln christmas markets and a trip to get monitored at hospital have meant not much shopping, although I did pick up some gummies in the sc*&thorpe store, with a yellow SEL stating 35p or 11 for £1.

off out in a minute to get a few bits in...have to drop dd's lunch back to nursery for 11.45 so not going have much time for bargain hunting today....would love some good toy glitches please ;)

The show did not make her look bad, if the were doing it to make her look bad why would they show her hosting a charity event and raising £250. the show was not meant to be as serious as you think it has to be. and some people have posted threats and if you are telling me that that is acceptable you have to be crazy.

james, she didn't look bad at all as far as i'm concerned. she is obviously a good mum, as careful as possible with the family money, and a christian that acts upon her beliefs.

I am James father/Judiths husband we have just discovered that James has posted some messages on this forum. I SINCERELY APOLOGISE for his posts, having seen some remarks bordering on offensive towards his mum on other MSE forums he reacted. His motives were well intentional and admirable for trying to defend his mum but his posts were ill conceived and unacceptable. I am at pains to write as his father but he deserved the responses he got, I have read though the responses and even though some were a little harsh I don't have a problem with them, I found the post telling him to go to bed mildly amusing and ironic as we have to do this most nights. He though having sent his initial post that would be the end of the matter but he was unaware of the consequences of which he now has learnt a valuable lesson.

When Judith agreed to participate for the film we were aware she was at risk of being criticised it comes with the territory of being on TV however it was not her intention to upset fellow coupon users. The film was meant to be a quirky light hearted somewhat surreal look at the extremes of frugal living not to be taken seriously. Reading through this thread it appears she is as popular with some MSE users as Clarkson was with Unison and it strikers last week. :rotfl:
Being a midwife, Judith has had to work with and overcome traumatic situations in the delivery suite, therefore putting everything into perspective she can cope with the criticisms aimed at her. Unfortunately there has been some offensive remarks on other threads but reading posts in this thread from angry and aggrieved users I appreciate that your remarks have been measured, constructive and civil.

For what is worth I would like to comment on 3 areas of the film that has attracted the most criticism the shop, the showers , the Fairtrade Lunch.

Permission from Tesco was required prior to filming and filming was carried with strict conditions and under supervision from Tesco management. Filming would have stopped had Tesco felt there was a gross misuse of vouchers and the film was further scrutinised by C4 lawyers regarding any potential perceived fraudulent/illegal activity.

We have solar panels with hot water supplied by solar energy living in Gravesend (hottest/sunniest place in UK - FACT) we normally have sufficient hot water for daily showers however on cloudy days there may be sufficient hot water - it makes perfect economic sense to wait an extra day rather then turn the heater on. I see no issue with this as a growing lad in the 70's/80's we had 2 baths a week as did most people I cannot see what the problem is. You can see that I have taken this matter really seriously with my user name.:rotfl:

Finally the Fairtrade Lunch this is Judiths event that she has ran every 6 weeks for 3 years. She works extremely hard on a completely voluntary basis from publishing, printing and distributing flyers, emails, letters: buying all the food/drink: ensuring all environment health regs are met: setting up displays: baking cakes and hosting the event. She is not paid a penny however she is fully entitled to cover the cost of the food/drinks. This is no different from every charity who operate from high street shops, offices, etc who cover their costs from income generated. The point of the lunch is its completely free people pay by donation only, in this instance alone Judith is entitled to a free lunch even if we had a set price Judith and the other volunteers would still be entitled to a free lunch. Again most charities allow their volunteers to have free drinks, biscuits, cakes, sandwiches, etc nothing unusual here. At the end of the film she had to demonstrate the £15 cost (amazing really to cover a lunch for over 60 people) and Nathan counted the profit to £232.92. After filming we increased the donation to £250, giving £125 to Tearfund & £125 to Fairtrade Foundation - this was not mentioned.

The overwhelming response to the programme from family, friends, colleagues, local people, local media, facebook, twitter and lots of MSE forum users has been very positive.

I will not be posting again but had to apologise for James and make the points above. Please respect my decision not to post again there is nothing more that I can add, those users who remain unconvinced by the film and angry at Judith will not have their opinions (which they are entitled) changed.

    Kind Regards
    Smellyhubby
I have a few questions first one is then why did she give the newspapers all the information regarding smarties etc and also you say that all her coupon activity was checked by channel 4 legal team but anyone who used the dove coupons knows that the way to get more coupons was to make up email addresses[ i am sure you could class this as missuse]just for the record i didnt get any dove but i do know about it.i think and it is just my opinion that your wife thought that like the lady in america she would get more tv work from this but it has backfired because a lot of negative comments have come from that programme regarding your wife.
  • Can I ask why - or am I being thick and missing something:(:(
you have read what moonshine wrote and the words after it?
