Wearing a helmet can never do more harm than good, I take you point on falling off as you know its coming and will protect yourself but being knocked off by another cyclist at a skate park lets say or god forbid by a car - The helmet will save your life!!!

Gotta agree with both of you here yes the helmet does give a feeling of security but yes it can also save your life,

example couple of year back me and DD went riding in out local park, DD decided it would be best to cycle faster going downhill than it would be to break well..........she hit the fence at the bottom of the hill so hard she went over the handlebars bounced off the fence and fell backwards onto her head, we had to take her to hospital for xray as we thought she had broken her ribs (she took the paint clean off the fence and onto her t-shirt and no , it hadn't been recently painted) but thankfully she had her helmet on or god knows how bad her head would've been , she didn't break any ribs (no idea how??) but had a massive bruise going diagonally from her shoulder to her hip , trust me she will be lucky if i let her out the bike without masses of bubble wrap on let alone standard protection :rotfl:

Well all I can say is she must have been suitably compensated for being publically branded.
Her photo looks like one taken for police records

Agree with this, still have a 1/2 moon shape scar on left knee, a blbby one on right knee, elbows just about have skin on.

Re helmets, slightly different, I fell off my motorbike @ 40 mph skidded along floor, when I stopped back of head smacked against road, when got up the helmet spit into 2 pieces with just the under chin strap holding it together, all of the leather off my jacket was ripped off and my boots got mushed, was very lucky given the coach that was behind me breaked, and stopped just about 3 inches from my head, pretty scarey as I could see it coming toward me as skidded helplessly along road..PHEW

was a very lucky chap, walked away with a few cuts and bruises,
my view, as much protection as possible.

also got knocked over handle bars of motorbike by a driver, was red light and que of traffic, i overtook all of the cars to get to front, until one lady decided to open her car door..ouch, went flying.
Back to square one, no apg, no comment.
