SAGA card

Options
My wife and I read the article entitled 'Cheap Travel Money - Top cards for spending abroad' on MoneySavingExpert.com because we were going to Dubai for the New Year.

Although we have several cards it seemed that they weren't the best option so we decided after reading the article to apply online for a SAGA card. It took a very long time to apply and there were several confusing problems but eventually we succeeded.

A week later we got a letter from AIB (Allied Irish Bank) saying it was not possible to issue a card to us after information from Equifax a credit reference agency. The wording of the letter seemed to imply that had a bad record or something. We were furious because we have a 100% credit rating - we are both in our 60's and have had numerous bank accounts, hire purchase, credit cards, debit cards, mortgages and other loans since our teens.

After phoning them in disgust we discovered that their policy is not to accept people who already have 3 or more cards! I does NOT say that anywhere in their online application nor in the article on MoneySavingExpert.com.

What a waste of time. We have since found out that the best thing is for us to use our Barclaycard and pay the balance on return. We needn't have bothered reading the article at all!
