If i was you i would get copies of yours and your collegues job specs and start building your evidence that you have been consistently working in a comparitive role rather than waiting untill the 12th week

Great minds think alike Liggins and I will put together a folder of information to support my argument over pay. But I hope I am long gone before 12 weeks are up!! I have only been there a week, but am continuing to look for permanent employment. I've an interview coming up which they know about. I've made it clear to them that my job search hasn't stopped because of this contract. Luckily the temp contract means I don't have to work any notice, so if/when I do get something else I'll drop the NHS like a hot potato...and never ever again will I ever work for them, either directly or indirectly. I worked in a different trust several years ago and was stunned at the amount of money they wasted, it was jawdroppingly bad. I'm no more impressed by this trust.0 -

Where there are no pay structures
A hirer has decided to increase its workforce on a particular shift with agency workers. There are 10 permanent staff and 3 agency workers, doing the same work. The permanent employees are paid between £8-10 per hour– those recruited most recently being paid £8 per hour, the higher rate reflecting on the job experience. The work involves no specialist skills and only minimal on-job training. The agency workers are recruited at a rate of £6 per hour and continue to be paid at that rate after 12 weeks. Is this allowed?
No; there is clearly a rate of at least £8 for the job and the agency workers would be entitled to at least this after 12 weeks on the assignment.

I would suggest confirming the grade of post you are temping at, having it out with the agency (who are obviously creaming it off at your expense) and looking for a permanent opening in the NHS.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Band 1 scale is not porter's wage as they usually get band 2 or 3. Band 1 is actually the same as the first 3 points of band 2 scale. Thanks for your replies and advice everyone. The situation now is that I am totally hating this post. Most of the time I have nothing to do, and in all honesty I would be much happier being unemployed and therefore have the time to conduct a thorough job search. I truly want to leave, but if I leave of my own accord I will forfeit JSA. Yes, I know going from a job to JSA isn't good, but this is a public sector "job" and it costs the public purse more to have me sitting here doing nothing than sitting at home claiming dole. I am getting upset and depressed just thinking about this mess. The hourly rate issue is irritating but the actual job isn't worth even the low rate they pay me.
So how do I get out of it without forfeiting JSA?0
