Ginger Non Alcoholic Drink

Hi

I'm not sure whether I should have posted this here or on the Christmas Board, if people think it should be there I can sort out the move, just let me know.

My dad (god rest his soul) used to make and bottle a ginger concoction that my DS really liked (I wasn't too keen), it really tickles (not really tickles but DS would explain it as "it got me at the back of my throat"), I hope you know what I mean.

Now I know my dad bought a small white bottle of some sort of mixture that he used to make it but I'm not sure what that was or how on earth to make it.

I was hoping to make some for this Christmas; does anyone know what I'm talking about :rotfl:, can give me some idea of what the white bottle of stuff is and give me an idea of how easy it is to make. My dad used to make wine so he was used to sterilising bottles etc, do I need to do all that.

Thanks
Ms Choc x

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you mean. You can buy a small bottle of ginger cordial which you make up with 6 pints of water and about 2lbs of sugar and you then bottle yourself. My gran used to make this and we had it hot. She called it ginger wine and it had a kick but was non alcoholic. Really lovely. Our local chemist had some last year and I saw another brand very recently (like last week) I think it was the co op and it was about £1.25-50. HTH:)

Yes that's the sort of thing I mean, I will have to try and look for it when I'm out and about tomorrow

Sounds easy to make, I wish now I'd asked him how to make it

The Co=op sell the concentrate for ginger wine, I think they also do a blackcurrant one, they call it Yulade or somesuch, the only place I've seenit for years, used to be my dads favourite, and is great served warm to help sweat out a cold!

We used to grow a ginger beer "plant" to make non-alcoholic ginger beer.

If you track it down the instructions are on the bottle -you'll just have to have enough bottles to keep it storeed in. My gran had green bottles like 1/4 spirit bottles but I'm not sure what I would use.:)

Bottle Green sell a nice ginger and lemongrass concoction at the moment. Look on the shopping (discount etc) forum for coupons. It tastes great.

The co-op's one comes in a can of concentrate sometimes instead of a bottle now.

Castle Wyness. Sold at the tills in Boots at this time of year, saw it in my local the other day. (I know because I hunted everywhere for it last year!:))
