Hi,

Is there a way of finding out which insurance company insures a motor vehicle using the registration number only?

Many thanks

askmid.com but i think you have to pay a couple of quid to find that info

EDIT http://www.askmid.com/askmidenquiry.aspx there you go £3.75

It says it can only be used in the event of an accident. Should be alright if I do a ad-hoc search though shouldn't it? They're not going to phone me to verify or anything....
The reason I want the info is because I saw a vehicle driving dangerously and to my horror it was what looked to be a 10yr old boy driving with his dad . Figured they'd be interested in the pictures we took of it.

You'll probably end up with the accident recorded against your details as well.
What's wrong with just reporting them to the police?

Well really that is used to search for people who refuse to give details etc at the scene of an accident. Like Mikey said you are probably getting yourself involved in something you don't need to. The insurers probably won't care that much anyway as its not their job to be judge and jury and they aren't just going to cancel this persons policy based on some pictures that may or may not be incriminating.

If what you suspect is true then its the police you need to contact who will deal with it straight away not an insurance company who will file it away to deal with next week or the week after.

Fair enough. I don't wan't any kind of marker against my name!

Do you think the police would be interested?

Feels wrong to not report it so someone! Having a small boy drive a motor vehicle (especially in the manner he was) is insane!!! Shame on whoever it was with him!!!!

TBH unless you have clear evidence of the car being driven and the pictures showing both their faces (or atleast the driver) and the car they won't have enough evidence to do anything anyway. Does the pictures show the car being clearly driven on a public road, i.e could they argue otherwise.
