success in claiming ppi!

I just recieved a letter back from the Halifax offering £3454.40 on premiums paid for life and critical illness cover which we had taken 5 years ago. They did take the whole 16 weeks to decide but i am delighted. They didn't pay any compensation on morgage repayment insurance premiums as we had claimed on this when I got made redundant and did recieve 2 years of payments which they said was more than premiums paid.I am unsure if this is correct (or am I just being greedy?) as our argument was we were told it was better to take these insurances when applying for the morgage as it would mean we would be accepted,we didn't get the option of sourcing our own possibly cheaper cover.Any advice on this would be great . we have however accepted the refund on the life and critical illness premiums. Thank you to Martin's website and all the people who posted on their success' as it gave me the confidence to do it.IF YOU HAVEN'T DO IT NOW ,all it took was a letter:j

Although the caveat should be added that you got lucky as your complaint was made against a bank that is auto upholding complaints, made between a certain period, whether you have a case or not.
Most people will not be as lucky as you as their complaints would be reviewed more thoroughly and in most cases, Life & CI cover would not be refunded and MPPI has far lower success rates in complaint (for good reasons) and your example shows you had no complaint to answer for there anyway.
It doesnt actually sound like you had grounds for complaint but just got lucky with an opportunistic try-it-on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
