Hi
Just noticed that Amex have stopped the 5% cash back and loaded the card with a £25 annual fee - i am just about at my anniversary of having the card and got about £300 cash back to come, which isn't bad just for using the card.
Does this mean i will now be charged £25 annually or do I retain my terms and conditions of a free card providing the card is used and is it now worth me switching, if so to what?
thanks

Your terms and conditions won't have changed, but the new card is probably better if you've spent enough to accrue £300 cashback. You get 1.25% with no tiered earning, and double cashback on your anniversary month every year if you spend over £10,000 on the card over the course of the year.0

Thank you - So if i change is Amex the best around?0 -
I also have the Amex Platinum cashback card but took out the Capital One Mastercard recently to get the 5% cashback for the first 3 months. As I have now reached the max cashback on the Capital One card, I'm back to using the Amex where possible, as I get 1.25% cashback regardless of how much I spend.
I certainly think the Amex is the best available, particularly if you were fortunate enough to take one out before they starting charging a yearly fee0 -
just checked and i am now only earning 0.5% cashback as i have passed the anniversary - will Amex therefore allow me to change to the same card on the new deal to get me back to 1.5% cashback or is there a better deal out there?;)0

Hi folks,
I am in a similar situation to the OP, I have the old Amex cashback card with no fee but tiered rates.
I am trying to find out the tiers and rates but can't seem to find them on the amex site. Does anyone have a link to them?
I want to be able to do a comparison like the OP to decide whether to change to the new card, pay the fee but get 1.25% on everything rather than the current tiered rates.
(Sorry OP, hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread, hopefully it is relevant to you)A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -

I'm also interested in this. I got £260 through Amex last year but now my rate has been bumped down to 0.5% and I'm likely to be spending a lot less this year (no longer claiming business expenses)
I was shopping around for a better offer but the only one about seems to be the Capital One World but I'm not a homeowner so got declined.
Anybody been able to apply for a new Amex and/or get transferred to the 1.25% rate?
Also does anybody know/remember the thresholds for someone that registered before the new terms?
Thanks in advance0 -
Nobody in a similar situation?0

0.5% for aggregate amounts up to £3,500
1.0% for aggregate amounts from £3,501 to £10,000
1.5% for aggregate amounts in excess of £10,001
No payment will be made if total is less than £25
(the information can be found on the back of any paper statement)
Hope this helps xSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Thanks very much. I've gone paperless and it's not on the PDF statements.
While I'm here, does anybody have any recommendations as to better alternatives (aside from the Capital One card or the Santander 1-2-3)?0 -
The creation cashback credit card offers 1.5% on supermarket and petrol spends and 0.5% on everything else, no annual fee and no limits on spends. You'll have to google this card as it doesn't come up for some reason on creations website. I got one last week with a £4k limit, so not too shabby!! It all depends on what you spend your money on as to what will work for you0
