the continued growth in using immigrant labour is likely to push salary levels down isn't it ?
No.
Or at least, not overall wages.
The impact of immigration to wages of the native born population is actually positive, but also very, very small.
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/media/library/immigrationImmigration to the UK has made a positive contribution to the average wage increase experienced by non-immigrant workers, according to a new report published by UCL’s Department of Economics and Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration. The report was commissioned by the Low Pay Commission as part of its ongoing evaluation of the National Minimum Wage.
The research looks at the period from 1997 to 2005 and finds evidence of an overall positive impact of immigration on the wages of native born workers, although the magnitude of the effect is modest.
Immigration during these years contributed about one twentieth of the average three percent annual growth in real wages.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Means nothing in reality.
Does view also quote the distribution? There will no doubt be heavy leaning towards the SE where the cost of living is higher for many things. Housing/commuting (I know this bit will be high in rural areas too probably but that doesn't seem too matter)
They have just become higher rate taxpayers, lots more will be brought in by the capping of the higher rate threshold, totally arbitrary movement.
No different to the higher paid employe limit for BIK. Back in 1980 £8500 meant something - it is totally meaning less.
It is all relative to the cost of living."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I earn far more than that now even though my wages being frozen for a couple of years. Despite that I can't afford a property, that must be why house prices keep falling. They will fall till they are affordable again..

How can you not be able to afford a property on 50k or whatever a year?0 -

I think its probably about right as
teachers
high grade nurse
Most nurses don't earn £42,000. Standard Nurses are Band 5 (£20k to £27k), Senior Nurses are Band 6 (£25k to £34k) and Ward Managers are Band 7 (£30k to £40k). Obviously there are shift allowances and overtime on that, but those are the standard wages.
Matrons may be on £42k, but there will only be one of them to every 50 or so nurses in most hospitals. And I'd class them as management really.0 -
I had in my head you were a police officer for some reason Brit. What is it you do for a living?
Still police. Just short of £40k basic with London weighting and coming up to top wack (service)PC. However if you are in one of the squads there has been a lot of overtime that can be had. Cons are you have no life, no sleep and have to be flexible constantly at work. Eventually you burn out.:exclamatiScams - Shared Equity, Shared Ownership, Newbuy, Firstbuy and Help to Buy.

most people in london commute for 45 mins - 1 hour to get to where they work. think you've previous said you're in west london in the ealing area or something like that. you could easily get a 3 bedroom place within an hour of that for £200k.
Russian, Greek and Chinese property speculators are not buying 2/3 bedroom houses in downmarket areas.0 -

If you've absolutely convinced yourself that houses will fall in price by 50% and won't even contemplate being wrong on this then you're not going to buy a house unless that happens, are you?0 -
