Hi, do defaults on credit reports fall off 6 years after the defaulted date or do they come off using the updated date?
Thanks in advance

Brilliant, thank you!0

HSBC and 3 others on mine keep changing the default date
Do you mean changing the initial default date?
Or do you mean they are continuing to update date the monthly status with a "D" or an "8"?
The 1st of those would be dead wrong, while the second would be OK to do until it should be marked as settled.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks no need for me to worry then as the initial date is on or around my br date give or take a month or two, but Barclays have sold my credit card debt to TTI SPC so as two others, they have marked 2 as satisfied.
Company name: TTI SPC Who's this?
Account type: Credit card / Store card
Special Instruction Indicator: Partial Settlement
Special Instruction Start Date: 01/07/2011
Started: 12/12/2003
Default Balance: £4,163
Current Balance: Satisfied
Defaulted On: 15/12/2009
File Updated for the Period to: 17/07/2011

Yep. The Defaulted On date is the only one that is important.
That controls how long the default and account stays on your file for.
So in your case, 6 years from Dec 2009 = drops off in Dec 2015Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

This is interesting, On my credit score last month it showed I had a default date starting October 2006 ,on checking this month it now says I defaulted in 2010 which is totaly wrong? any idea how I can change it?0

Fermi - I'm now confused as to why the date marked settled/satisfied should then be on or before BR date to ensure the record drops off the same time the BR does. Surely that advice in the clean up thread means that the settled/satisfied date is the important one and it matters not when the default date was prior to that? When I joined, I needed a name. Just checked some old threads and the Clean Up thread too. My mistake, misinterpreted and thought because the advice is always to have files updated so the settled date is on or before the BR date that meant the settled date was important. It appears not and as though it doesn't really matter when the settled date is, as long as it's marked. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
