What's the best kitchen scales?

I love baking, but between me and the kids have managed to break 4 sets of kitchen scales in the last couple of years. Obviously buying cheap scales is a false economy for us. Can anyone recommend the best scales, sturdy, easy to use, that will last a lifetime?

How do you break them? I have a simple mechanical one which has so far lasted for over 18 years (it's a very cheap one that I bought when I was a student) It does get used a lot!

  • Heavy-handed children I think. Although the last set must have just been for show only, because the screws kept falling out!
