Need to Cancel a Flight

Hi,

We live in Dubai and have booked 3 flights to the UK for christmas.
However My son has just got a job out here and he is not allowed to leave the country for 1 year. His flight was booked with BA through Expedia.

I spoke to Expedia and they said its a non cancelable flight. I also spoke to BA who said it was down to Expedias dicretion.

As there is no way he can use this flight is there any way of claiming the money back?

If we get travel insurance is there anything that will cober canceling the flight?

Unless you bought flexible (expensive) tickets it is likely to be a non-changeable.non-refundable ticket. eg regular ticket for random dates 1230AED, flexible ticket for same flights (same seats) 3335AED - although both will be higher for Xmas time

Travel insurance won't cover change of mind. You should be able to reclaim the taxes back for the flights less admin fee

No insurance company will knowing pay out for an event that was known to the policyholder prior to them taking out the policy and they will all have an exclusion such as

Any circumstances known to you before you purchased
this insurance or at the time of booking any trip that could
reasonably be expected to give rise to a claim.

You should be able to claim the 'taxes' part of the cost from the airline.

You can't buy travel insurance to cover an event that has already happened. Insurance is meant to cover the unexpected.
