This might sound a bit odd but here goes, it's a theoretical beer question.
If I have 2 laptops, laptop A has Vista on it and Laptop B has win 7 on it, is it legal to swap the operating systems from one laptop to the other?

if it is a retail version of each operating system which you have brought and installed yourself then yes its fine to switch
if they are preinstalled versions that came with the systems then no due to the OEM license limitationsDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save

I think that technically it would be unlawful, but not illegal to transfer OEM-licensed Windows installations between machines... So you couldn't be criminally prosecuted, but you could be sued. (But I'm not a lawyer...)0

The OEM licence is attached to the machine. So if the Product Key on the laptop fails to activate, you'll have to go 'cap in hand' to Microsoft.0
