would this system http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170075241594&rd=1&rd=1
or one based on the same things as it take an nVidia 8800GTX no problem? I have heard that the 7300 is bad for graphics and that any machine with it in it would be lying to call itself a gaming machine?
Someone had told me not to buy now because NVidia are launching more of their series 8 cards soon but as far as i know they will all be inferior to the 8800

The 7300GS isn't a monster card, but it's not bad. Nvidia are due to release some more of the 8 series soon, the 8800GTX is overkill at the moment, i'd recommend waiting for the rest of the 8 Series family to come and get a 8600 Ultra, it has the best price/performance ratio reallyformerly mrmilo690

thanks, i reckon i might do that, maybe buy(or get someone to build) a similar spec system to that one with a view to replacing the card(or just wait a month or so) then look at the options once the 8 series has more to it. I had heard it being said that there's nothing really that requires the 8800GTX yet, a bit like having a car that can hit 200mph but only using it on roads with speed camerasBought, not Brought0

The Nvidia 8800 cards are currently the only cards that support Directx10. However Directx10 will only be available with Vista and isn't even out yet so spending a huge sum of money on a 8800gtx seems silly to me. I think you'd be better off with a much cheaper card like the 7300GS and then when games that need Directx10 are available upgrade the card. By then the 8800GTX will be considerably cheaper than now.
That's what I'm planning to do when I buy a new system in a month or two.
If you really want something better now, you could look at the 7600 or 7900 cards or a Radeon X1950pro. Remember the GT versions are better than the GS versions, something like a 7600GT would be considerably better than a 7300GS but about £100-ish rather than £45-ish.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
That looks like a fairly budget motherboard at £36.95 inc. VAT. If you want to build a top end system, which sounds like you do if you want a 8800, the motherboard is the best place to start."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0

The main answer to your question is simply NO that setup is no good for a 8800 card the new G80 cards require 2 x pcie 6 pin power plugs to run them and ideally at least a QUALITY 500w PSU not 400w as stated in their ad running 4 individual 12 v rails, then and only then will you be solidly delivering clean current on the crucial 12v line. Hope that helps!
Thanks

as Hardm2000 and zagu say - thats a fairly cheap and underspec'd machine, wouldn't touch it. If you are tempted to wait for the next step in hardware you'll always be waiting as there is always something new about to come out.0
