Anyone flown Alitalia?

Interested as they are coming out cheapest on expedia for the times I'm interested in (and similar priced to lowcost carriers, though from a more local airport to me, Heathrow)...
Is it an all inclusive price or will have to pay extras for luggage/boarding etc? Are seats allocated? Will we have to pay for drinks? And were the planes reasonable?

I have flown them before. And if given the choice again, i'd rather take my chances taking a lift to the top of Canary Wharf before jumping whilst flapping my arms in an enthusiastic manner.0

I've flown with them several times, with only one bad experience when they had to cancel my flight coming back from Italy, but they put all the stranded passengers up in a 4 star hotel for the night, with free dinner and breakfast. On board meals are free but not what they used to be, they're actually crap. I guess they have had to sacrifice a few things in order to reduce costs. Drinks are free too. And no extra for baggage etc. Seats allocated at check it.
However I believe Alitalia are now on the verge of bankruptcy once again and looking for private buyers, they've scrapped my usual manchester-milan route amongst others, very disappointed, therefore I wouldn't be surprised if their service has worsened since I last used them (last August), so I'd suggest you check on their website and other relevant websites.
Good luck.0 -

I few with Alitalia once from Heathrow to Rome. In my opinion, they seemed closer to Easyjet than Emirates. In fact, I'd say they were Easyjet but with a free COLD meal.If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

Thanks for this, I can probably live with poor service etc for less hassle with the scrum seating; easier with the kids etc... But I guess there is a risk they will not be around in the summer to make the flights!? And Sam, what was it that made the experience so bad?0
