8 people age 2-73, £500, Oct Half Term - Help?

Hello,
I'm hoping the MSE magic can work on this problem for me.
We've got our in-laws with us for six weeks this autumn, and we like to break it up by taking them somewhere during half term in October. Centreparcs last year was a bit of a disaster (for them) because all they want to do is eat and walk around shops and see things...it was fantastic for us....but that's by the by.
Anyway - we've got to please the inlaws, the toddlers x 2, the youths (15 yr old plus the obligatory friend!), plus OH and I. We don't have a car to seat 8 - so somewhere that half the party can access by train is good. And with a budget of around £500 - we're a challenge!!
If anyone can suggest something, I'd be most grateful. I don't mind where in the world - though I would rather not fly.
Thanks, in advance

did you collect the sun holiday tokens ? lol
they have half term dates ( here in wales anyway ,not sure if you are different dates ?!)
could book 2 mobile homes if you collect 2 sets of tokens
the sun will have another one round about july time so could wait til then and collect the tokens
other than that i am a bit stumped as to what you could get for 8 people during half term week for £500 !............

Thanks Rachie B - but I don't know if I could take the inlaws camping at their age!!!!
I was really thinking of getting a self catering cottage someplace - doesn't have to be a full week, it could just be four or five days. The £500 is just a rough guide - petrol and travel not included.
Any other ideas???0 -
shorefields in the new forest is gorgeous and there is loads to do for everyone. Lots of other holiday parks too if you dont like shorefields. sandy balls is also a nice one.

Where do you live? How far are you from Whitby? You could all go on the train to Whitby and hire a cottage. There's lots to do in Whitby, we always stay in the Old Town, where there's lots of shops on the cobbled streets. There's most of your mainstream shops on the 'new' side, there's lovely walks by the sea, boat trips, museums, abbey. We often go with our friends which makes 8 of us and we usually find a nice cottage to stay in. We've been with Shoreline cottages (but they may be a bit expensive), at New Year we stayed at this house http://www.iknow-yorkshire.co.uk/accommodation/6510-Borough_House-Whitby.htm it was lovely, lots of character!0

I agree with Wendy,Whitby is lovely, been there quite a few times now and always book our cottages through.

Here's another link to a place in Whitby that sleeps 8, I don't know the cost though.
