  • if you get a phone call from them it usually means that you are successfull, they will try to get you to sign up to their PPI etc but just politely say no thanks.

People slag them off, but they do do what they say. I've been a vanquis customer for 2 yrs went from initial £250 to £2500 before I closed it last month(due to getting accepted for Tesco and Virgin)

Just use it correctly, till your rating improves then apply for a mainstream card.
  • When I applied they rang me the next day.

You might not have been successful, but there could have been problem contacting you etc, you could try to ring them to ask for the status of your application.

It took a few weeks for me before they finally got me on the phone, due to me missing the calls. I hadn't realised the had been trying to call me as they never left any messages and had thought I had been turned down, I then got a call out of the blue, went through the questions, declined the repayment plan (PPI) and my card arrived within a week.

I agree with the first post, a lot of people have a lot of things to say about Vanquis but they do what it says on the tin. If you keep your account in order and repay each month in full there is no interest to pay and your credit rating improves each month. If you max out the card and can't clear it, you could be stuffed with the APR's they charge, but you are aware of that from day 1, so it is only you who are to blame really.
