Really warm woman's coat

If I was to buy my partner a really warm coat, what would people recommend?

Would it have to break the bank to be really warm?

No animal skins or wool please.

Any advice?

tesco have still got the £20 coat sale on until Sunday- i just had a look on the website and cant find it, but i have the long quilted puffa jacket- it sounds chavvy but really, its not! Its hooded as well

Its so warm and toasty. Its like wearing a duvet. When i got mine, they had it in black and brown

Shame i cant find it on the website.

I would also go for a long quilted coat - I haven't seen the Tesco ones, but TK Maxx have a good selection.

I found this one, but it doesn't have a hood. Is it the same one without a hood? http://www.clothingattesco.com/coats-and-jackets/f+f-quilted-puffa-jacket/invt/bt122005/

I've got one like that for in the car, it's really good, mine's years old, it will never wear out :)
I like this one, nice and high at the neck

OP have you tried Uniqlo? They state they have a special "heat technology" and if their thermal wear is anything to go by I'd rate them. I've not bought or tried their coats (not my style and I got my coat as a gift for Christmas so was a bit of a feature/style over substance!) but if I were looking for warmth I'd definatly try them.

I'd also rate Gap and M&S but would wait for the sales. Not sure where you are but at the moment I'm still in the same jacket I was wearing in August! Just added hat scarf and gloves to keep me a bit warmer.

Me too. Anything else and I'd overheat!

I like Next but I always wait till the sales. But my hubby says my cold setting is different to everyone else's since when he's shivering in his coat, hat and gloves I'll be wearing a cardigan and be quite warm.
You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel

    What about NEXT? http://www.next.co.uk/shop/gender-women-category-coats-category-jackets-0

I usually get myself a good coat from there every other year, the best thing about it is that I never ever see anyone in that same coat. Plus if you go to a NEXT Clearance you could probably pick something up for about £30-£40, which would be half price.
  • I wouldn't recommend the M&S down coats unless they've changed from last year - mine is really warm but not at all waterproof, the rain goes straight through the stitching and you are soaked through in no time :(. I bought one from TK Maxx this year to replace it, it's a Gallery one and I had one a few years ago which was great, so I hope this one will be as good, although I've not been out in the rain yet...
  • The other thing about a down, as opposed to a standard padded coat is that your partner is not happy about animal skins or wool, she may be unhappy about duck down as well! Plus good ones are seriously expensive, if they're stuffed with mostly down and little feather. Check the inside content label, polyester wadding.

It really depends as well on what her lifestyle is, and what will suit her - puffa coats are great, or you could consider a really lush fake fur - have a look at TK Maxx or on Ebay for a vintage one.
