orange pre pay wont get sent out

Options
ordered an orange pre paid credit card last night and just got an email saying it will be sent once ive returned 2 proofs of ID....it says in terms and conditions and even the shop assistant told me that i dont need to verify my card....only if i upgrade which i dont want.

can this be correct....i dont see why i have to pay another fiver just because they decided they want me to verify.

• Don't proceed then and let them stew!
If you want the card it looks like you will have to comply.
• well ive already ordered it so wasted a fiver now as i have to pay to retain my balance or 5 quid for the upgrade....the point is ive been sold it under false pretenses.

It appears that a basic ID check on you has failed. Orange Cash's FAQ, see http://cash.orange.co.uk/faq/, is a little ambiguous about what happens if the ID check fails.
What’s a card with reduced spending limits?

We’re legally required to confirm your identity when we receive your application. As long as we can do this, you’ll receive a card that allows you to shop online and in the high street, as well as withdraw money from ATMs, up to a maximum spend limit of £5,000.

If we’re not able to fully confirm your identity, you’ll receive a card that still lets you shop everywhere, but has a total spending limit of £1,600 a year (up to £600 of this can be withdrawn from ATMs).

Who can get a card?

Anyone can get a card, as long as we can verify your ID.
I wonder what difference there is between confirming ID and fully confirming ID?

Anyway, according to the FAQ you can get your fiver back...
How do I cancel my card?

If you want to cancel your card, please email us at customer.services@orangecash.co.uk or call us on 311 (Orange phone customers only) or 020 8264 8311.

[...]

There’s no charge at all for cancelling your card. However, you will be charged a £5 redemption fee if you choose to redeem any money remaining on the card.
• dont really understand how they id check me anyway.
i paid £15 in the shop for a code which meant i get the card free and then puts 15 pound onto my balance which i have to now pay 5 pound to get back even thought i was told i dont need id confirmed. i fine with the £1600 limit as all i want it for is to fund my paypal account ive just waited 2 and 1/2 weeks for them to tell me i cant transfer from my verified bank account. i need to purchase something asap and this has delayed me even more.

apply for the AA prepaid card

http://www.theaa.com/prepaid-card/index.html

Purchase transactions are free and the card is free

you will know whether they are going to send the card at the end of the application and you do not have to pay anything until the card arrives , then you can load the account with £1 or more

http://www.theaa.com/prepaid-card/card-fees.html

Lebara Money prepaid card is available free at the moment if you load with £20 and can be used with paypal according to the FAQ's
http://www.lebara.co.uk/money/faqs#

I wouldn't apply at night though because the CRA may not be available

As someone posted above. Without the ID verification Orange issue a limited card - it's optional to send in the proof of ID to get it upgraded. Do what I did and order another using one of my other forms of ID and I got a full card. Then cancel the limited card within the allowed time frame and got my fiver back.

It is all down to Experian. Orange run your details past their ID Verify database, if this checks out and your proofs match, you get an unrestricted pre-pay DEBIT card. If the do not find you on this database, but your proofs are OK, then the restricted card is permitted. With no verification from you, under the Money Laundering rules they will decline to issue any card in your name. O2's old 'O2 Money' card accepted my DoB as 01/01/1900 but I only wanted the limited card so this wasn't a problem.

The rule of thumb appears to be if you don't show up on the database or provide ID, the card will not be issued.
