I had a SIM only contract with VM at the time of BR and turned this into a pay monthly deal less than a year later, as I had the SO deal previously I got the contract after passing the credit check.0

i def wasnt credit checked when i got the full contract and then the 2nd phone with orange, ( i asked them) and my understanding is after 3 months on the sim you get the full contract and really good phones.if only life was a box of chocs0

My phone contract was not included in my BR however its still going through... So don't know what the outcome will be...
If you have any cash, my advice would be to be buy an unlocked phone and join a network on pay as u go.
New to this site so not sure if I can say what I consider to be the best deal?!

I did just that and it was really good value. I'm not a heavy call user but text a lot. I only really went for a contract because I wanted a new phone and didn't have the cash to pay for it up front. It's definitely more expensive for me but I love my phone :rotfl:0 -
Also if you maintain a good payment history on the phone, that contributes towards your credit file. I settled a previous sim-only deal and got another one, which all looks good when eventually the br debts drop off.0

Just to throw my 2 cents in, I personally would advise getting a contract prior to going BR and keep up the payments so as not to need to disclose it to the OR. Thats what I did & I've just got the new iphone 4s as an upgrade through O2 still in my discharge period, £26 per month.
I know this doesn't help the OP but anyone else considering BR that maybe reading this might want to consider this option??0 -
Although a good idea on paper, there may be a slight flaw in that plan Fooked.
I think some members have had their contracts dumped by their phone providers, sometimes they find out about BR and Wham! they pull the plug. That seems quite rare but it is a possibility to consider. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I got a top phone on contract with Three once discharged but had to pay a £100 deposit. They then sent me a cheque back of £100 after 6 months.0

So it does depend upon personal circumstances and if the individual can justify to their OR the need for a mobile phone.
Why would you have to give your contract up, don't declare it and pay out of another allowance.0 -
I am with orange, they gave me sim only for 3 months and then I was able to upgrade to a phone and contract.BR - Dec 08
Discharged - Dec 09
